I have seen a lot of pressed glass on my glass journey but this must rank as one of the best. I think the design and quality of this piece is comparable to anything I have seen, even makers like Lalique.
It was made by Iwaki Glass, a relatively unknown Japanese glass maker in the West, but a large producer for Asia.
Iwaki was the first privately owned glass factory in Japan, established in 1883. They initially focused on industrial glass such as signal lights, safety glass, and then in the 1930s began to make high quality moulded glass for home and business. In 1970 they moved into manufacturing homewares and in 1974 started large scale production of heat-resistant glass tableware. These days Iwaki are still a huge producer in Japan of pyrex and other tableware and also have a large factory based in Indonesia.
This bowl from pink glass has been moulded with a perfectly smooth top surface and a repousse base surface. The base is moulded with a design of leaves from which emerge 3 roses. The roses act as feet for the bowl and, because they are so raised, the roses viewed from above are deeply pink and have incredible depth and style.
I believe this was made in the 1950s. I have also seen this bowl in clear which is also beautiful.

well i got an sort of informal obligation , to do fair trade, that includes let,s say sweat shop policy, which actually means i, can,t trade with Indonesia
i can,t trade toikka,s birds which contains cadmium, lead etc you name it in some states of america, looks logical , but i am supposed to know, actually no one cares about the rules,actually the Tacoma exposition was big for the americains
what happened
a few hours a week i have to read import and export regulation it is a labyrinth
hahaha i am a bit jealous, on this site i see a lot of stuff, which i think of how do you manage this , have you read an encyclopedia of rulings ?
Mine's more a household pressure group that helps me control my spending.
I do have some strict personal rules for buying.
Like *who I buy from, whether what I am buying caused any harm to people or place, if an artist is being shortchanged if I buy from a certain seller, I prefer second hand and recycled goods, is transport to me going to be excessively costly in energy.
for me it,s a little more complicated as i have some Jewish obligations in the art world i am not that successful as i am not that influential and there is a hope bureaucracy, and i got Muslim obligations
and that is playing hardball because i am rather high
in stratification (understatement) to prevent etnic problems and xenophobia
I'm not a social guy, only if the children of the epilepsy institute are involved ( uranium glass gives a lot of light, they sleep well)
for the rest i got a more psychological approach , what is hoarding , what is greed
, nowadays i , don,t give a f.,,.
told my children , keep some my poetry writings most of it is junk but made a very few reach the literary pages
for the rest if there is anything left of a rather extensive chinese collection after i am gone, only keep the Kangxi Wannen charger ( throwing up corn in the air, or give it to Twente museum )
i tried to be solid, but every seller will represent this probably, , actually i wonder if i really am in any way social , i put my bet on an guilt feeling , that is the benefit of being an old fart hahaha you are getting mellow , i neededt that to rectify the count ( pro pokerterm) in the count in life, sometimes i have grow up , unfortunately i am a bit late hahaha
