Found this trunk at a yard sale for $10. I knew this was special and I want to learn more. So far my internet search indicates that this trunk is most-likely from the 1880s, the image on the inside could be a victorian lithograph. There are also 4 wheel castors on the bottom.

I would love to know where these trunks were made and to whom they were sold. Even possibly the name of the craftsman or business. This is probably the coolest thing I have ever found. I wish I knew its story.

Here are some patents that apply to this paper covered trunk.
There were hundreds of makers during the time period that used many of these trunk parts. Without a label it is very hard to say which manufacturer made it.
A great rule is that the trunk is not earlier than the patent dates of those parts. Having said that , trunk parts were used for many years past that date.

The paper covering also has a patent. I believe it to be 1876. I'll look for it in my collection of patent images and post it if I come across it.
The lithograph on the interior cover is not one that is often seen.
      Thanks for the post.
