Japanese Sukiyaki or Shabu Shabu Nabe Pan

    Approximately 8" wide

I previously posted a pedestal ashtray. When I bought it, this was on top. I thought it was a table top ashtray.

UPDATE: After seeing a pan posted by kwqd, I was searching for a similar one that I own. I stumbled across a picture and it reminded me of this one. Turns out, my hunch was correct.

Pan has 3 feet underneath, with a casting mark. Has a single handle with dished center.

    SUKIYAKI, SHABU SHABU, NABE
"Nabemono, sometimes shortened to nabe, is a category of traditional Japanese one-pot dishes that are often prepared and served at the table. Sukiyaki is a type of nabemono dish which includes vegetables, soy sauce, sugar, mirin, and meat cooked slowly in an iron pot at the table."

"Sukiyaki and shabu-shabu are two different types of Japanese cuisine, both involving thin slices of beef that are boiled at your table. ... Sukiyaki offers a rich flavor, seasoned with soy sauce and sugar, while shabu-shabu is fatty meat with a light flavor."

Yup, looks like a sukiyaki or shabu shabu nabe. I think that the recessed center is typical on older pots, but not sure of that.

Wow, that's funny. It was on top of this standing ashtray I bought. Never thought anything about it, till I saw your piece and was searching for the one I have..then saw this and it clicked in my head!
