My Neighbor Totoro is a favourite movie of mine and when I saw these figurines sold by Noritake I had to have them.
Written and directed by the great Hayao Miyuzaki in 1988 for Studio Ghibli, the movie is a classic film in the animation world. If you don't know it I think you need to see it!
Totoro is the main creature character and became the mascot for Studio Ghibli. The sticker Nibariki on this glass Totoro references the direction company of Miyuzaki and his wife.
The cat bus, Nekobasu, despite it's almost evil grin, is a helpful and happy transporter for the children in the film.
These are not packed away at my place, they remain on display for my daily dose of smile feels.
I think these may have been made by Sasaki for Noritake.
Totoro is app 10cm high, and Nekobasu app 10cm long.
Beautiful glass animation creatures, their sculpted designs are wonderful. Now I want to see the movie!

The movie is very sweet in that Japanese anime way.
The film is feel good for me Peggy so having Totoro and Nekobasu here is lovely.

I'm a big fan of this movie! It's surreal, quirky, & touching. Kiki's Delivery Service is another fave of mine from Miyuzaki's oeuvre...
The figurines are fantastic, perfectly capturing these iconic characters.
I'd take a ride on the Catbus any day... :-)
