    Wood Carved Quail

    Approximately 8 5/8" tall x 5 1/2"

Did I say I like wood carved animals? My sister went to the thrift store today and brought this nice quail back. I was home waiting for some truck parts to be delivered. But of course...now it says tomorrow.

No markings, but it's a nice carving. This is an ironwood carving.

mayor computer trouble so we do it this way , sorry it is the scylla or charibdys

      concerning e mail 13-01-2022

seller is right this is taisho landscape piece , around 1920, IMO everything , i would, not have it form free, it is an naked piece , no mandarin ducks etc, you are missingpart of the gold application its sloppy , you got interference , part of layer upon other layers, transtion sky and see no fade it, this is absolute junk

the 4 beneeth ones are gorudo -bizu moriage, which which apllied elevation , and the elevation comes from a sort of pearl neckless design , lets call it beads like the murano beads
they are quite easy to date around 1917
the use is more difficult , because japanese use bowls foreverything , i think this is not so likely an candy dish but a sort of sunomone ( for pickles or cucumber (
probably part of a set of all kinds of uses of bowls, i am not so fond splitting kitchen utensils
pieces aint bad , IMO over the top , i would not buy price is a bit steep , for this you better let,s say gorudo - bizu theacup and saucer , you got rather well stuff for lets say 90 dollars

, sorry won,t do it again but otherwise you have to wait maybe for weeks for an answer

Nice. I have several of these ironwood (?) carvings, including a similar quail. Not quite so common as they once were. Maybe the makers were put out of business by Chinese imports? Dunno...

Waki - thank you. So you say the SNB mark is taisho? I was very curious about that since no information was really found. I understand they had a factory in Nagoya.
