Recently I purchased a statue of which I do not know the origin or age. But .... it does look a lot like something Asian.
The statue is 37cm high
If there's anyone out there who knows more, let me know.
I got information that this figure is a luohan (arhat),

This statue is an image of Jigong Huofo (1133-1209), aka Chan Master Daoji, a Song Dynasty master of Zen Buddhism and Avatar of the Dragon-Taming Arhat (Xianglong Luohan). He also is known as the "Drunken Monk" or "Mad Monk" and usually, but not always, is shown wearing a hat, flip flops and shanzi (stuff which is used as a fan).
This is a kind of ware called pseudo Sancai glazed pottery
apostata thinks this statue is made in the period 1790 -1840.

Could this be Xianglong Luohan also known as the Taming Dragon Arhat, who is an arhat and one of the Eighteen Arhats in China or is this Ji Gong also known as "Chan Master Daoji" who was a Chan Buddhist monk.

well that, s is a tremendous assessment , did, not recognize him without flip flops and shanzi ( stuff which is used as a fan in his fly swatter
officially i don,t know but at least it is sancai color, it lacks proboble the lead aloy, the white coating is different tang dynasty white got an buttery white glaze
i think nowadays they limit themselves to the criterium of 3 colors and they call it pseudo sancai
antroposophical it is of importance of the namely the ambiguous attitude towards alcohol, because the aristocracy can be mocked without being punished
philosophically it is also important in relation to the perception of purity versus impurity ( daoist thesis ) an sort of pardoned perception
I have received information that this would be a 19th century piece. What do you think?

Someone judged this statue, from the base, that it certainly appears to have been molded using pre 20th century methods. Perhaps early 18th century?

i don,t know which expert is in , but is must be an genius to recognize an modified Jigong Huofo , Sandra Andacht , Tony Allan, Anthony Lee, so i gonna loose this anyway, because i suck in Sancai haha
well i got a lot of bs information and i felt like a kid trying to learn english when Marry Poppins was singing Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
it,s hard to state something of any significance, because the so called experts range from PHD dudes to the the drunken owner of the local bakery
and i did,not understand much of it (stuff like possible thermoluiniscence and juxtamorphing etc)
so i have to do it myself, and i am just a small fish in a big pond
the base is an type of Liao dynasty , but got nothing to with it, i could not assess this on incision , because i could,t see any significant differences ( no skill) between late Ming and and Jiaqing
is it a slip mould or an ordinary mould i think it is ordinary mould
i think we have to assess this by the main determinant iridescence and what happens if the iridescence corrode
imo than the vibrant colors remains but only without lets say the coating
(, iridescence) IMO the genuine vibrancy is out, from the get-go and the iridescence is all out, so i think all the late Ming and early Qing is out
i could,not sample Jigong Huofo, by lack of significant quantities, so i took the more or less logical sampling of LI Ching -lien = LI Tai-po , because of the social anthroposophical hype of romanticising drunkenness in combination with a pseudo Sancai
the quality is mediocre so i think it is something like 1790 -1840
and i think you got an lot of value compensation here, normally this is nickle and dime stuff, but it is rare , rather big and it is very pleasantly frolicsome
i am a novice in this , so i surrender in advance against any dispute, for the simple reason i am not skilled enough
