Trench art aeroplane, can anyone give me any information on this please, only info I found up to now is it looks like trench art, extremely heavy brass I think, any info greatly appreciated.

Yes it is brass. Unfortunately there is no written information. There have been books here and there over the years with trench art in them but no real info. There are many collectors but little info as to exact dates or prices for that matter. I have collected a lot over the years. I think this one may be European but not positive on that. Some of the best ones I have are from Germany !~
Hi Phil, thanks very much for your response. I am in the uk, the ornament was inherited from an elderly neighbour a good few years ago now. I have tried to research it many times over the years but havnt really got anywhere.
I thought it was European, thanks for confirming this. The better ones back in the day and mine is one of the best and German. The best were even sold through Jewellery stores back in the day and used the new plastics {Plexiglass}, on bases and chrome accents. Some of the best examples are now found in the better auctions in Germany. I love my example which I have not put up on this site yet, but hope to soon !~
My father was a soldier in Hungary in 1953. He worked there as an airplane mechanic, he had an airplane made of aluminum on a Plexiglas base held by a steel spring. Unfortunately, it was lost.
Probably trench art— made from war refuse, but hard to be certain. There are many modern pieces on the market today.
The cast airplanes were popular in the UK.
Most US made pieces (my major collecting field) are made from bullets and shell brass. Take a look at my postings, if they are of interest.
Trench Art by Jane Kimball is a great reference book on the subject.
I’ll do some additional research, but the plane style appears to be UK and WW2 era.

Hi scott, i will definitely look the book up, also i think it looks a little like the mosquito plane, not sure if that's right though.
The engine placement is closer to a mosquito, but the tail is off and the mosquito doesn’t have the mid fuselage canopy (gunner/ observation) on top.
Sometimes it is hard to find a perfect fit with these. The trench art versions tend to be more detailed/ strictly adhere to the actual aircraft; while the commercial/ decorator versions have more artistic leeway.
Also take a look at the Saunder’s (author) books on trench art. He did a few smaller books and the focus is the UK.
