This was a nice find from a shop I hadn't visited since late last year.
An Art Nouveau era vase, it is made from a fairly thick single layer of dark bluish - green glass (I know it looks purple, but that's the iridescent surface working its magic). It is quite heavy for its size.
It measures 20 cm tall, 5 cm across the fire - polished top rim, & 6 cm across the base, which is ground & has a neatly polished - out pontil mark. The surface is strongly iridescent with dark, intense rainbow hues of pink, purple, blue, green, & yellow. The iridescence has a brushed, painterly effect. There is also unusual enamel decoration of stylised branches & falling leaves. Perhaps a Japanese maple tree?
The form seems to be a familiar one in glass of the late Victorian - Art Nouveau eras - a rounded, four sided base with a broad cylindrical neck. Each of the four sides has a circular indentation.
Perfect condition, & clearly a piece of quality judging from the finish. The decoration is quirky, however.
I feel that this is most likely Bohemian origin, dating from around 1900. Maybe Harrach...or Kralik?

Beautiful piece. I have it in a smaller version without painting. I think this is a production of the Rindskopf glassworks.

Many thanks, Ales - I was looking through your site earlier for items with this shape. Have just seen your small version of this vase in the "Glatt Matt Iris" decor, & it looks very similar to mine in form & iridescence. There is a crimped bowl with painted decoration in the same section which, despite different subject matter of a butterfly & flowers, has a similar colour scheme & style of painting to the decoration on my vase.

I believe this is actually English - Webb’s bronze. The slightly rounded rim, wide polished pontil, and shape all look right to me for Webb, too. I have seen enameled examples, as well. You have a lovely vase, Marin!

Marin, if you look through it and the actual glass is green, I agree with Michelle, it will be most probably ‘Webb Bronze’..it is lovely.

Thanks, Michelle - that's really interesting! I had not really thought of Webb Bronze for this one as I tend to think of classical amphora type vases with handles. I have one vase I thought was Webb Bronze but it is dark red inside when held to the light...

Thanks also, Penny - & yes, this is definitely green inside.
