Hey Watch...if my dad had enough money after paying bills he took my mom,sister and me to the krystal on broad street in Rome georgia. No plastic but real plates and bowls. I thought I was a big shot. Thanks Dad!
Coleman, I’ve eaten at the Broad Street Krystal many times over the years! Small world!
When Krystal’s cost 10 cents each, my sister and I would buy 10 for her and 10 for me….then we would walk a few blocks to the Desota Theater. We would buy Cokes and watch a movie while munching on our haul of Krystals.
Even as a kid, I could easily eat ten….probably could have eaten more if available. :^)
Watch..you are conjuring up some memories now! I went to the movies at the Desoto and my uncle worked the concession stand there.
Those are some good memories. I bet you also checked out books from the Carnegie Library…or maybe, swam in the pool at Roy’s Little Garden.
Yes and my grandpaw and I would ride the bus to town and stay all day. We would go to Super-D and eat at murphys. My granny and mother and I would visit the green stamps store also. My mom said that I liked to pitch fits when I did not get a toy. I pitched a fit one day and hit my head and mama said I never pitched another:)

My grand parents lived at 820 South Broad. My granny and I would also ride the bus to town.
If my mom went, we rode in our car…..I loved feeding the parking meters on Broad St!
I also pitched a fit once that I remember….had a meltdown for a 4-pack of little plastic babydoll bottles while we were in Kessler’s to buy fabric.
Granny gave in to hush me up and quit embarrassing her, but, on the short bus ride back to her house, she shamed me the whole way then told my mother on me so I got shamed some more.
One other thought - this seems to have been a “uniquely Krystal” thing: at that Broad Street Krystal, the only seating was the line of red stools along the counter. If all stools were occupied, patrons would just go stand behind someone who was already seated and, hopefully, just about finished eating.
Everybody knew the routine: eat your food, get up and relinquish your stool to the next person in line behind you. No chitchat or lingering over your coffee. It all worked so smoothly!
If you didn’t have time to wait for a stool, there was always the option of standing at that narrow shelf-like counter along the opposite wall.
Those were the days…..>sigh<
Watch..Indeed those were the days! We lived in east,south and west rome. We went to the west rome drive-in theatre and saw elvis in speedway. My mother worked at the crystal on the corner of shorter avenue. That was the one where you could pull into the stalls like sonic. I miss them days!
I got to eat at your Mom’s Krystal many times with my dad….2 hamburgers and an orange drink for me…back when they hung a tray from your car window and your hamburgers were wrapped in paper and lined up in a red plastic basket.
We lived in East Rome and attended Pepperell.
Watch....I sure miss those days. I wonder what they did with the old krystal road sign? It was large and in charge. You don't see many krystal restaurant items either. I attended elm street elementary and west side elementary.
