This 2" bright blue & green enamel open-winged bird brooch has one green rhinestone eye, on goldtone. By Sphinx of England ca 1960s with numbered mark A2346

Beautiful bird brooch, her colour is gorgeous, so inky but bright, kinda like a magpie?! I can't think of what bird she might be, but it's definitely something that lives in the rainforest!

Lauren thank you for your fantastic praise for this bird, it's a pretty uncommon design with the open wings & aren't those striped pearly blue/green colors cool. We don't have magpies in the eastern US where I live but I looked them up online, the beak does look very much like a magpie so I'll agree with you there, good eye! I watch alot of older British shows on dvd, and think the custom of saluting a magpie is so charming, and love the old verse "one for sorrow, two for joy..." Reminds me of the day of the week saying "Monday's child is fair of face," being a Wednesday-born child I'm not too woeful but if anything bad ever happens I'll think, well, I AM a Wednesday's child lol!
I love the movement in this bird, and blue/green enamel always works well.
You're absolutely right Karen, this bird has alot of movement as if taking off, not the usual pose sitting there on a branch. And I adore the blue & green together, you may remember the phrase about clothing "blue and green, never seen" as it was supposed to be a bad combo to wear together but I've always loved them.
