Does anyone know if these are collectable? It is a mesh with maybe baklite baby blue accents. I don't know more about it that is why i am writing.

Could not believe it when I saw my very own pen and pencil set! I can answer some questions about this set for you. This Sheaffer set was sold during the 1960's. I saw a set in black and gold around 1963-4. I received my set in late 1965. It is plastic not Bakelite and the nib is silver not gold.

Now, I have a question, is there a converter made to enable the pen to be filled from ink bottles rather than cartridges?
Also- I have tried countless times to find lead for the pencil with no luck at all- any suggestions?

You are correct about the nib - it is some kind of very shiny silver color metal. Never occurred to me that the metal could be white gold. I'd think it would be marked if that was true. I have not seen any mark to that effect - but that does not mean anything - I could have missed it!

Unfortunately - my pen is not a "snorkel filler" style - it came with cartridges and that is all I have ever used in the pen (since 1965 when I got it) The black pen I saw also was a cartridge type - no filler marks on the outside -a solid form. That was very new and unusual (in my high school) at the time. All other fountain pens had levers on the side - that was normal in my middle class life.

Please understand- you obviously know MUCH more than I do about pens-I am only commenting as I look at my particular pen - which is the only pen I know anything about! If the picture of my pen were not on the page I pulled up on the site - I would never have made a comment to a group of collectors!

Thanks so much - I will follow your advice! I appreciate your assistance - I did not have a clue how to proceed!

It is a Sheaffer Lady (Skripsert). Originaal 1960s retail between $15 and $35. They are a collector's item although lower rank on the scale. Some Scripsert have brilliants on them (on a band around the cap). Have a look at http://www.sheaffertarga.com which has a work in progress about the lady scripsert.
