A Hershy Auto show item, found yesterday at my favorite show, the show that I wait for all year.
My love for old motors dictated that I take it home with me.
There is no name tag on it (as often found). Through the internet, I traced it to a Knapp "little hustler" motor from the early 1900's.
It is made of cast iron, and for its 3" diameter, it is quite heavy.
after taking it home, it went straight down to my basement to be cleaned and tested.
After adjusting the copper contact blades (brushes), I got it to attempt to spin on 10 volts DC.
Needs a little work, but, I will get it running as it did in 1920.

      Hi Anything,
Knapp made many little electric motors, as did other manufacturers.
I'm not sure if they were meant to be in any one application. they were an introduction to boys and girls to get them interested in mechanical and electrical items.
You could find their advertisements in magazines such as "Boys Life" and other publications that interested children in their early teens.

And hotairfan -- if I would have been one of those little boys in its day, you better believe I would have wanted one...I had to settle for old sewing machine or fan motors (or TV sets) and whatnot instead... :-) :-) :-) :-)
