This is a recent ebay purchase. It was listed as being large but when it arrived, it was larger as expected. The ring is very heavy (almost 70 grams) and covers close to the whole hand. I will need some courage if I ever want to wear it.

I wonder if someone out there knows what this style of ring is called. Also, I check for the makers mark (either YDM or VDM) and came up empty so far. I would really appreciate if someone could lead me in the right direction to find out more about the ring.

    Thanks for looking:)

That's gotta be the prettiest "brass knuckles" I've ever seen...?? <lol>

AnythingObscure, thanks for your comment. About being pretty I am not too sure, but the amber looks nice. I was even considering to change the ring into a pendant:)
"Brass knuckles" is a good idea to check out. I will have a look online.

Fascinating ring. The amber stone is very beautiful but the silver ring and casing definitely remind one of brass knuckles as AO said, which are usually a ringed metal piece that fits over the four top fingers and are used as fighting weapons. As you say it's heavy, perhaps it is a pretty self-defense piece?

Newfld, thanks for your comment. I did a bit of searching and the closeness in design seems to be inspired by this kind of "things", even though it doesn't meet the definition. I don't think I would ever wear it and therefore decided to cut off the shanks of the ring and attached a hook to it. I think that when I am done it will make a pretty nice pendant:)

It doesn't look like a ring to wear. It's well made. Beautiful chrystal. I think it's for something else. I wouldn't cut it up until you found out what it was made for. What did the ebay person say it was?

The amber stone looks like it would fit well in your palm. Wild idea!! Fancy pill crusher? Or something like that??

I love that hole, if you ever wanted to display it you could make an out of this world display stand. Sorry for not posting more to look, but ran into many on-going health hurdles these last 5 years.
