    Hello:
I recently inherited this writing desk. It belonged to my great grandfather who lived from 1886 to 1964. I believe this to be from the late 1800's/early 1900's and probably bought in Texas. Does anyone recognize the era? Any other info. to offer based on your expertise?
    I appreciate it.

Very nice. Did you find any hidden compartments?

I’ve seen this desk my whole life and never noticed any hidden compartments. Right now it’s at my brother ‘s house so I’m going to look it over this weekend. That would be cool to find one or two. I wish I had asked more about it when my parents were alive.

Gorgeous piece of furniture. For some reason it reminded me of a Spanish look to it and looking at those images it brought up I still think possibly Spanish. I would think possibly up to the 1930's to 1940 in years of age also judging from the sculpted look to some of the wood. The roundels also give it that air of something older, you should be proud of this piece.

Hello LBS2023, and welcome to CW S&T. I cant help you with this piece, but wanted to comment and encourage you to take PhilDMorris's suggestions, far better than any I could offer beyond looking at its backside or under drawer bottoms to see if there might be anything there. It IS most definitely a piece that, IMHO, I hope becomes one of your own treasured items, because people like most all of us here that enjoy collecting and enjoying stuff, just because any of those things are worth it in their own diverse ways. :-) :-) :-)

PhilDMorris, thank you so much for your input. I plan on keeping it and hopefully it continues to stay in the family. When I see it this weekend I will look under and behind for any kind of markings. Thank you again and thank you AnythingObscure!

Although my great grandfather was Scottish and from Texas, he lived in Miami for most of the 1900’s until his death. He even lived in Cuba for a while around 1915. He travelled there off and on for years. Maybe he picked it up in Cuba. I will start researching that.

Its also a piece which may have surfaced in a catalog of fine furniture like Henredon or another I forget at the moment. I have one of those catalogs or brochure type booklet of these furniture styles which they did in a mixture of styles. I remember mine dealt a lot with the regency style of furniture !~

Well, 3 of us searched all over this desk, high and low and could not find any markings other than some numbers: 8025 16 in a couple of different places.
My brother seems to think it may have been my Grandfather’s rather than my Great Grandfather’s desk. I’ll keep researching to see if I can find anything similar.
      Happy Holidays.

Are the upper and lower attached? Seems the upper is narrow compared to the bottom. Most you see are the same size.

The upper does come off. It sits on little pegs to hold it in place.
