One of my interests is Australian Arts and Crafts and last week I took a punt on this vase.
Well I had seen it a week before and the price was too high and there were the two flakes to one side that just put me off it.
But when the price was lowered I stepped in to save it. It looked like it was old .... the gilding was worn. The wear on the feet meant age.
It was the look on the face of one of the figures that did it. That look of surprise. It had intrigued me.
Who is the other figure with the crescent moon and diadem ???
But was it Australian or was it French ???
I am still thinking it is Australian. Perhaps the figures are a little too naive in the Kate Greenaway manner. The only flowers that are recognisably Australian are the branches of wattle. So still unsure.

The blank is unmarked and there was (is) a firing crack on the inside of the base to one of the feet. It had age. Back home I set to to look anything like it and with an image search found the same form on a sales site in the State of Vermont with a description of “19TH CENTURY OLD PARIS PORCELAIN FLOWER VASE” obviously made for the Arab/Indian market in the French manner.

So it is perhaps a French blank. It has four oval panels on which there are hand painted figures and floral arrangements.

So, probably made somewhere around Limoges?
      Painted by a good artist.
Why do you think they were in Aus, Kevin?
I can see something in the surprised face which is very non-Euro,but the flowers don't look Aus (from here)
Fabulous anyway and I'm pretty sure your investigative skills will have a painters name in days :))

Well I'm not so sure Karen. The blanks in Australia came from various sources and I've had a variety of responses in the FB Oz china painting group. Most think it is Australian and early. There is wattle amongst the flowers to one side panel. It might never be resolved but it has attracted the attention of some experts. We'll see. All the best to you and yours.

Surely it is a Vieux Paris blank.... the side knots are very similar to the lid handles of the porcelain teapots....., you are right old Paris blank could be also from abroad France..... The painting is interesting.... Is there any incised mark like II?
