Solid oak rocker. No metal decoration. Hand-tied springs. Unusual carved piece along seat and back, and “ wings “ with three graduated sizes of holes. This is likely the greatest clue. Are the carvings a Trillium flower or a Christian symbol for Trinity? May have come from a Jesuit residence in Spokane. Has slot-head screws at all joins not mortise and tenion. Any help appreciated in identification. 35”H x 27”W

The oak seems more of an English Oak which is quite different from a North American oak. So likely more than not, an oak which came from England. The decoration is beautiful but would be hard to find in North American pieces. Lucky you to find this piece.

Thanks Phil, I looked at everything except the wood type. I never considered it could be English Oak as the Pacific Northwest still has a few preserved stands of American It was used extensively here when first settled - even the original desks in the Oregon State Capitol are made of it!

Yes, also there was a large effort to source oak chairs from Canada too. I once owned a dark stained oak bench which had that nice thin grain from England also. This chair of yours is decorated extensively, much more than that of North America. Unfortunately rockers are on the decline in popularity but for quality pieces like yours it comes with a feeling of fresh air to see this beauty !~
