I have several decorative boxes made of wood and painted with what appears to be a foil technique in mostly gold, red and dark green. The four drawer chest stands approximately eight inches tall. Two have curved legs and the smallest has a floral design on the top of the lid. I believe they were made sometime after 1940, but would appreciate any information regarding their age and original purpose.

If you search for "vintage florentine box" you will find many listings. These were popular decorative items in the late 1960s and 1970s and became very popular again last year. The four-drawer chest is for jewelry and the boxes can serve any purpose. The boxes, trays, and furniture were the most popular forms. You have a very nice collection.

Thank you for identifying these pieces. I thought they were pretty and purchased them as I came across them over the years. I even have a set of coasters in a small round box. It's good to know their history.

      Hello,
I have a Made in Italy box. The receiver of the box wrote inside that it was brought to her from Rome in 1970. Does anyone know anything about the marking "L.B,, ?
      Thanks,
      Brad
