Picked up 6 of these at a garage sale about twenty years ago. They were still in the original wrapping. One of the balls must be chipped because there's not must liquid left inside.
Don't know much about their history or what their value would be?
Every once and awhile I take one out to show and get some interesting conversations going.

I have two brother-in-laws that are firefighters. VERY cool. What doel the label say? Have you typed that into the Google bar?

be careful with this type of carbon-tetrachloride extinguisher -- aka Fire Grenade -- a glass sphere filled with CTC, that was intended to be hurled at the base of a fire (early ones used salt-water, but CTC was more effective). Carbon tetrachloride was suitable for liquid and electrical fires and the extinguisers were fitted to motor vehicles. Carbon-tetrachloride extinguishers were withdrawn in the 1950s because of the chemical's toxicity–exposure to high concentrations damages the nervous system and internal organs. Additionally, when used on a fire, the heat can convert CTC to Phosgene gas [7], formerly used as a chemical weapon.

Probably worth around $50 each - watch ebay - but be careful if shipping them -- http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=fire+grenade&_fln=1

Carbon-tetrachloride was sold under the brand name CARBONA. We used it to clean leather shoes before polishing them.

I have an old Fyr Fyter extinguisher. It isnt like any other that i can tell from internet pics. It has the red square box at the top and the fireman emblem between fyr and fyter seems to be minimized if it is even there (its pretty well darkened with age). This is a brass pump type with an approx. 13 inch cannister. Below the red square part id a black rectangle that says how to use it then below that is a taller gold rectangle and below that is a short red rectangle then a black rectangle below that. WHEW!!! It says SUPER above Fyr. Any details about age or guidance to a restored extinguisher collectors site would be appreciated. Pictures preferred on the site thanx

They are cool. I have a community club nearby that still has many of those on the ceiling! (their sprinkler systems have been updated)
