British India Letter Postcard used in Indian Republic with Two Different Year Cancellation 1949 and 1950 on the single Postcard.
India gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947; however, postal stationery from British India — such as the 9 Ps Nine Pies King George VI letter postcards — continued to remain in use for the first few years of the Indian Republic. I came across an example of just such a British India letter postcard that was utilized within the Indian Republic; this single postcard bore cancellation stamps from two different years — "December 31, 1949" and "January 1, 1950" — applied at 8:00 AM from Gautampura, Holkar State. On 26 January 1950 India became Democratic Republic of India.
