I bought this at a local flea mkt some 10 years back. How it works is that the line is on the inside & you click the winder back once to flip the bail to release the line on the inside. We have it displayed on our bathroom wall along with some other fishing reels ie: (JC Higgins Pistol Grip) in 3rd pic and old fishing lures. I am not sure of the dates of production, but believe it to be throughout the 1950's. Note that the ad says that "Its New!", and that was 1953. By the differerance in styling I would say later 50's.
This combination rod and reel was produced by Great Lakes Products, 8655 Military Ave., Detroit 4, Michigan. Thanks for looking !!

      I'm late to this party[2020]...
I also have a '56-'57[as I disremember-was only 12-13] version in used condition I used it four 4-5 yrs![everything there...still works but has heat/aged plastic inside/no maker sticker]...have toted it around since I bought it and as I'm getting 'on' thought someone out there might get off on it? seems a sin to just junk it.
