Album First page He gave this book to his sons daughter 1863 then died, he payed for all new shots of his family for this book . Page 2/3 we don't know who there are. the old guy may be a General his brother, and then then next page might be mother of all the kids who got this book. Dad died 1849 with 5 kids. Grandfather from page 1 help all of them grow up with $$ after his son died. A beautiful story. Could be made into a movie
Also the grandfather goes straight back to the battle of Lexington Ma, all grand daughters were members of DAR and helped the soldiers after Civil war, they were in charge of this group Womens Relief Corps also.
It is a carte de visite (CDV) album. A CDV is a small baseball card sized albumen print affixed to a cardboard mount. It was very popular from about 1860- 1890.
Cards were cheaper than hard images (daguerreotype, tintype, ambrotype) and much easier to store in quantity.
Cards of famous personalities were produced and collected in a similar way to baseball cards of our era.
As in all photographs content plays a huge role in value.

We have an album of Civil war generals like baseball cards, also some solders with names on back
Military photographs are very desirable and some have considerable value.
A good percentage of the generals photographs are lithographic views-- they are much less desirable than actual photographs.
I'd recommend that you figure out what you have.
