My next door neighbor gave me this gun because it stopped shooting? Obviously not a gun I would be shooting anymore. Did check the firing system and the firing pin does connect with the rimfire shell but lacks the force to set off the shell. Thinking it is better off non-functioning being an octagon barrel rifle with a serial number of 541 and got to love the price of FREE?? Fixing the firing spring would probably cost more then the guns re-sale value; but makes a good wall hanger.

It is a nice rifle and dates from about 1893- 1916. The Favorite was made after that time period, but Stevens dropped the "Tool" from the name in 1916. (From Flayderman's)

I'd look into the cost of replacing the spring-- I wouldn't think it would be that costly.

Thanks for sharing and you did get it at a GREAT price!

About a hundred years old; you would think the spring would last longer then that? Not sure if it is the spring, it does dent the cartridge. Then I tried a 22 short and she fired. Might be the cartridges have changed over the years or these old guns misfired. Might just need a good cleaning?

I am playing with it and thinking the firing spring had backed off because the stock was a little loose. There is an auction coming up local that has a large quantity of muzzleloaders, AR15's, AR47's, one Springfield XD 9mm, one Smith & Wesson 40 Cal, military trailers, tents and field gear. Oklahoma loves guns. Think I will go to see if the old 9000 square foot historical warehouse sells.
