This stylish desk clock was produced by the Mauthe clock company in Germany. Mauthe, Kinzle and Junghans produced the well known Black Forest Clocks.

This particular clock was produced in the latter half of the 19th century, this "Historism" design is very typical for this time period, or so I am told by the vendor who sold it to me. It usually features a panther tamed by a young, and usually nude young man, a reflection of the Grecco ideal of beauty.

I bought the clock from a vendor in Koln Germany. The figure is made from bronze patinated metal, the clock frame is of solid wood. The clock is brass with a metal clock face. The clock measures 12 1/2" (32cm) in length, 10" (25cm) in height, and depth 3 1/2" (9cm). It has been damaged the right front leg of the pather is broken off and missing but it doesn't show when set on a book case or mantle.

Very interesting old clock. I've never seen one quite like it. Does it run?

The clock does run, and like all German clocks it keeps great time, may vary a minute or two a week.

Next big question, how many clocks do you have running all the time? My wife allows me to have As long as I keep there chiming staggered so they don't all go off at once!

I have 20 running all the time, when I rember to wind them, only four are allowed to chime, the rest of the chimers, 8 in number are turned off. One of the chiming clocks is in the livingroom, the second one is in the diningroom, and two of them are in my office
