Came home with this beautiful Iridescent purple glass bowl, c. late 19th century attributed to Bakalowits Shone. Bowl measures 4" tall and 7" in diameter. It appears that the silver metal rim may have been added later.

    Bakalowits, E. & Söhne
An Austrian glass decorator and retailer particularly well known for their chandeliers.
Founded in Vienna in 1845 Bakalowits himself produced designs for Iridescent glass for the Loetz, Witwe glassworks and persuaded Josef Hoffmann and Ludwig Koloman Moser to do likewise

Is the silver mounting marked scruples?

Hmmm...you should ask Alfredo about this one. I was under the impression that Bakalowits was a retailer of other glasshouses, particularly Loetz and Moser.

I think that with its polished pontil and red ground with purple iridescence, this is surely a Pallme-König piece. It looks to be part of a set, perhaps? (PK also made serving utensils with their signature glass handles) - it isn't inconceivable that Bakalowitz may have special-ordered them, but I don't know of a reference for that.

I recently contacted Bakalowitz and the present owner told me that they now only sell chandeliers.
He also said they have a nice personal collection of c. 1900 Loetz which they retailed back at that time. So I think Cogito is correct that Bakalowitz retailed Loetz glass and some Loetz was made exclusively for them.
