These pieces were produced between 1928-1938 in Czechoslovakia by Kralik. They come in similar decors to other vases by kralik (powder, flame, tango). These shapes were produced by blowing them through a metal cage; allowing the bulges to protrude through the metal. They seem to mimic the technique of earlier french producers from the art deco era...I have also seen this technique for lamps in Spain and Greece. Once you have one you must get another and they look especially interesting in larger groups. All are blown from the top- but a few were transferred to the bottom to fire polish the rim, even fewer are flash iridised. Any info on these pieces would be appreciated since I only have a few images of them.

Jericho...How are these pieces made? is the hot glass placed inside the metal cage and then turned by hand at a high rate of speed to force the glass to protrude through the cage openings?
Well in the case of the cut top the cage was sitting on the floor and the ball of glass was put in evenly then blown out through the punty (although heat rises so they probably blew fast). In the fire polished rim they blew from the top in the same way then transferred the postil to the base and cut the rim. then formed and fire polished it in the kiln.
awww... yes, did not think about the blowing...that makes sense. I did finally end up watching those youtube videos...what a cool art...although the pieces I saw made were nothing compared to the cool Czech pieces. I assume that same as with Marbles, the people who try to reproduce the old glass/marbles are not too sucsessful because of the glass available now is not the same that was available in the begining of the century???
you are right, in some ways there was better glass back then because people didn't regulate so much what chemicals were used... all kinds of toxic stuff. also how can you produce nice stuff when you have child labor laws, environmental regulations and you want to live longer that 40?!
