I found this antique door at a second hand shop and bought it for a mere R500,00. It has a lead and glass inlay and the flower in the middle is two dimensional, I have never seen anything like it, it must have been part of a cupboard, although it is very narrow. The owner of the shop said he thought it was made of American Bass wood as it was scratched and the wood underneath was very light and whether it was stained dark or changed as it aged, I wouldn't know. Once again my husband and I restored it and decided to stain it dark again and used mahogany to build a cupboard, exactly the same size as the door to make it useful. I now use it for a shoe cupboard. I wish someone could tell me more about it. It is really a nice piece of furniture now and will be handed down to our grand children!

Whao, did you and your husband build the cupboard and restored the door?

Yes, we did both, dont't y0u think my husband is brilliant? I loved the door so much that I decided I had to have a piece of furniture that was made specially for the door so that I could look at it every day and enjoy it, now it is also useful, I always hated bending down to get my shoes out of my built in cupboard and now I just have to open my beautiful door and whalla! Do you have any idea from which era this door might be, I would love to know more about it. I hope you don't mind, but I have to tell you my little doberman, more like my child, as our children have left home, name is also called Snoekie!!
