A three section fan that collapses into one section. The back says:

    "ZIEGENHEIN BROS./FUNERAL DIRECTORS/6409 GRAVOIS AVE., AT HOLLY HILLS/FLANDERS 1000/AIR CONDITIONED/PARKING FOR 100 CARS/ESTABLISHED 1901/AMBULANCE SERVICE/NEWTON MANUFACTURING CO., NEWTON, IA."

I am unclear on what the date or era is, but based on it's appearance, I would not date it earlier than the early 1950's. I suspect it is 1-2 decades earlier though. I do know that it is from St. Louis, where much of my family lived for at least several generations before me.

    UPDATE

I was able to find Ziegenhein & Sons through a Google search. This is what I found:

"There were 5 Ziegenhein brothers who operated the Ziegenhein Brothers Funeral Home from 1900 to 1931. John L. Ziegenhein & Sons broke away in 1931 and set up their own funeral home--that's us. Ziegenhein Brothers (4 brothers) business died off in the early 1960's. The folding fan you describe was typical of funeral home advertisements in the 1940's and 50's through the late 60's. When air conditioning become more common the fans started disappearing and were not seen too much."

Can you post a photo of the back? Sometimes it's easier to date something by the style of font & the way it's laid out.

I'll try to take a photo of it, but unfortunately it's been colored over with black marker. I can see it, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to capture it well in a photo.

Who knew?! Posted a photo that I think you can see pretty well under the marker. Thanks!
