Hello,
I just bought this a couple of days ago, she watches over me as I sleep.
It's made of paper mache, and a beautiful visage it is.
There's a lot of Mexican paper mache around, very beautiful things, but this looks most like the work of Gemma Taccogna,............is it?

I just ran across this doll again I must tell you, she might be my favorite thing on CW right now!!! She is WONDRFUL, the face and shape...what a treasure...Mich
She is a BEAUTY!! We don't collect the paper mache ~ so I don't have much info. A friend who does collect the Mexican mache folk art had once told me that if it is Gemma's work, it is always signed. Don't know if this is true! Just what I was told. He also said that there were several who copied her designs, some which did a great job, and some which did not. This is a gorgeous piece, either way!!
Don't know if this was ever identified? Gemma didn't always sign her pieces. This does like her work, including the base. Very hard to know who can verify GT work now. Her work is very collectible, by celebrities and art collectors, and have held their value.
