You may associate Singer with sewing machines, but they also made portable typewriters in the 1960s. My Singer is a pretty aqua color, all metal case with plastic keys, it was the Scholastic T-2 Model and retailed for $49.95. This is real similar to the one I had in high school, only mine was a Smith Corola. I have the carrying case for my Singer, instruction folder and an advertising brochure. The brochure (printed in 1963) states: An amazing Singer value. Weights only 11 lbs. 4 oz. yet is strudily designed for years of hard use. Incorporates many fine feathers found only in the higher priced machines! Singer made two other more expensive models, the Graduate T-31 Model $79.95 and theProfessional T-62 Model for $99.95. In my high school typing class in 1969, there were only 3 electric typewriters and only the those who could type the fastest were able to use them. I only typed 65 WPM, so never made it to the electrics! Typewriter are becoming popular again today. I even saw a wedding idea that had a typewriter for guests to type a message to the bridge and groom!

That goes back to my high school days, 1963-67. Back then guys did not take typing, it was not "cool". We took shop instead. I still type with two fingers today, but I get the job done.

I went to school in the Chicagoland area, You just did not see guys in typing class. We were way too busy trying to be "cool", "one of the guys", you remember.

There were two guys in my high school typing class. If it hadn't been for one of them, I'd have been THE fastest! Now, that was cool. He also had a 'rock band', so he had all bases covered, ha ha.
