This item was salvaged from a drug store on the corner of 7th & Morris Street in South Philadelphia. It's from the early 1900's, and was mounted on a counter top held in place by Oak trim on the sides and bottom. The demensions are 44" w x 25 1/2" h x 3/8" thick. It is more attractive or presentable in person as glass is difficult to photograph and these pictures don't capture the nostagic charm of those old buildings.

My cousin purchased the building in the 70's and converted it to apartments. The glass was given to my father who kept it for 40+ years. I guess you could consider him the second owner of this piece of history. I've had a hard time trying to decide what to call this glass or how to properly describe it. It might fall into a few different catagories.

      Hi,
I'm just going to give some background info that I think might be relevant.
The glass is actually a Partition, used to keep people from reaching into the area where the Pharmacist was working. It would be placed vertically, about 4 inches above the counter, so that a bottle or bag of pills could be passed under it. This glass would also allow the Pharmacist to meet face to face with the customer.
Similar glass was used in banks to protect the tellers in the same way.
Judging from the design, I would guess 20s or 30s.
Pharmacy stuff is highly collectible, there are plenty of deep pockets in that community that would be very interested. In my humble opinion, the location has little to the value, you need to connect with the larger community of Pharmacy and Medical Collectibles.
      I wish you luck.
