This chair was part of my great grandmother's estate. It came into my possession in 1948. It is a wooden chair that has been painted gold. It is basically a folding picnic chair that has had a wooden crown added to the top. My great grandmother came to Australia in 1870 so the chair would have been purchased some time after that date.

I have never been able to find a chair like this although folding picnic chairs were popular in Victorian times.

I have two very similar which I am in the process of restoring. they are in beech and I am told they were most likely bought out with my family in the mid 1800's to NZ. a deck chair i think.
