Awright Sports Fans: Real or Fake? Listed on pg 337 of Petretti's 12th.
Seller provided absolute guarantee of authenticity. I slapped a digital micrometer on it, she measures 1/10th of a mil thickness (that's 0.0001" for you math wizards). I'll tell you this, it is not the same label pictured in the eBay auction listing. This one is out of register. So I'm leaning toward exercising my RTR (right to return). Let me know what you think. Rare, authentic early century bottle label or one straight out of the Ronco label maker last week?

Boy oh boy, you have quite a quandry there, Dave. I would say if it's not as the listing was, strike one. Out of frame so far, strike two. And that bad feeling in your gut, strike three. However Early, Ray and CCkid could have better news. Was it framed for the last 90 years? Who authenticated it for the seller? Now I'm curious for you as well!!

Hi Tommy, yeah, you spelled it all out. Plus I paid less than 20 on a BIN (strike four?:). The seller has a good rep though. Here was his listing description:

"You are bidding on a very nice and hard to find 1917-1919 Coca Cola paper lable. This is the RARE Chas H. Candler Pt 6 oz paper lable shown on page 337 and books for $125 in Petretti's 12 ed. Guaranteed original. These were found inside the wall of a Coca Cola bottling plant in Minnesota 15+ of years ago when it was torn down. I have sold a good number of them the past 10 years and only have a few left."

I gotta say Dave, smells fishy from where I sit.

Mainly because any time I get something different than what was listed, RED FLAG!

Seller is standing behind his labels. Says he uses the same listing picture and has sold over 100 labels, authenticity never been questioned before. He says the fact that it's printed out of register actually indicates it's real, that the fakes look perfect. I gotta say, he sounds sincere. He's giving me the option of another, better example of a label, or money back. We'll see.

Ask him to send the one he took his photo of, see what reply that garners.
