Can anyone help identify a maker for this claret jug/decanter.

It may be crystal - no pontil mark on the base, I have searched extensively on line and cannot find anything like it.

There is a bead of blood red glass applied on each side and wheel cut etching on three sides.

      Hello,
just a really nice item. It motivated me to search eBay for antique decanters. There seem to be a few that remind me of yours, they were produce by WMF.. To quote one of the auctions:" WMF (Wurttembergische Metallwaren Fabrik) was founded in 1880 and in 1900 became the world's largest producer and exporter of household metalware, mainly in-house designs in the Jugendstil style."

That would seem to match the decoration on yours, i.e. "Jugendstil" which is the rough equivalent to the English Arts and Crafts movement.
Anyway, I hope this helps a little bit. And good luck.

Thanks for the message - it was listed as Jugendstil in the auction catalogue where I purchased the item - usually WMF is clearly marked and I cannot find anything on this piece or any other items with a similar shape or the piping down the sides - will have to keep looking - thanks - steve

You listed the piece as "Art Deco"...not " Jugendstil", two entirely different styles. All I said is it look like WMF, now you are an expert on WMF markings, even when you claim you do not know who manufactured the piece.
Just seems like I was set up to fail. Why bother trying to help when the person that ask the question already has a per conceived opinion?

I am NOT an expert but I have purchased wmf items before and seen the marks - I think this item falls between Nouveau and Deco styles I am just trying to identify the maker and not setting you or anyone else up to fail I assure you - sorry for any misunderstanding - steve
