      The spokeshave is probably a shoemakers "heel shave"

      Motoolz. I have an identical spokeshave which has always been identified to me as a cobblers/shoemakers "heel shave"

      However I have often wondered if it was not used for the shaping of oars or the handles of canoe paddles.

      I think that the "heel shave" cuts only on the hollow inside not on the outside of a curve. Maybe?
