Found this when cleaning out a shed, it weighs 98ounces, or 6.13 lb, it has two inset attachment holes on top (one recess has some lead in it third photo)
It is 3 5/8" in diameter & 3 " high
On the bottom, fourth photo is remnants of brass, may have been a pointer.
Could be a weight or a large plumb bob, but I have never seen a plumb bob with 2 attachment points. There could be something missing, that went in the holes.
My first thought was a ball that mounts on the top of an andiron. But I doubt they would have used any lead because of the low melting point. Sure is odd looking.
I really don't have a clue, but with the hole location, I would guess that it had a wire type bail attached and with that thought, I'd be guessing again, but the thought of a type of window counter-balance weight. Again, I don't know anything, but will keep this in mind and will see if anybody knows what this "ODD" weight might be.
A counterweight would be my guess also.
If it was just a piece of cast it wouldn't be very interesting, but the lead & the bit of brass makes it quite intriguing. I've been scratchin my head for some time on this one.

window counterweights are (almost) always longer than they are wide, so as not to jam up- in the tight , confined space allowed between the frame & stud(in some cases, double framed wood two sash windows. Not sayin its not, just not the most efficient design if it is.
I would agree mikie that you're correct on your assessment of it not being a window counter weight, there would be no need for whatever the brass piece was on it.
Maybe an old buoy marker? Love it!
