I am trying to find more information on this bamboo hat/helmet that my grandfather brought home during WWII. All I know is that he was a radio operator on a PT boat and stationed around the Phillipines. Any help would be appreciated. I've been doing some Internet searches and have come up empty. Not sure if this was a military helmet, a fisherman's hat or simply something that he bought...

    Thank you!

This site has an amazing slide show of conical hats and more!

This one is indeed from the Philippines and is termed 'Salakot'.

Thank you - it indeed does appear to be a salakot! In my searching I had seen a number of conical hats but most looked like they came to a point, where as this one didn't. Thanks again for the help - now I know that it likely isn't something that I'd bring to the Antique Roadshow and be surprised at its value. :-)
