Over the past several years, my wife and I have added many pieces to our Guinness art collection. These are original paintings on canvas by artists working for the advertising agency S. H. Benson Ltd. to figure out if they should go into print as advertising posters. They range in dates from the 1930s to 1950s.

We've since framed up many and hung in groups; they add a nice splash of color to various rooms!

Looks terrific. Plus I want to grab my Kindle, snuggle down in those chairs and read.

Hi AmberRose and thanks for the comment. BTW, the chairs are very comfy and foot rests pop out when they are reclined.

Wow, I love the poster of Mt Rushmore, do you know if that poster ever made it to print? I live 2 miles from Rushmore and collect everything Mt. Rushmore. I also have to say I Love your Mid Century Modern chairs. You have a great eye.

Hi rocker-sd (let me guess ... South Dakota ... no?). Anyhow, I forwarded your question to our resident Guinness expert (Steve Tedds - #10 above who will be creating a book profiling Gilroy’s 30 years at S.H. Benson. As an aside, Steve should post bits of his Guinness collection on CW ... it's quite remarkable. So let’s shamelessly coerce Steve becoming a CW contributor.)

Getting back on topic, Steve replied that the Mount Rushmore study was never made into a poster and added that it might not have been used as a magazine advert. He also said that approximately 50% of my collection of Guinness canvases (studies) was probably never made into posters. I find that interesting but probably not overly surprising. It seems a lot of studies were done but only a few made the cut (so to speak).

And thanks for the comment about the chairs. Interestingly, my grandfather started a furniture manufacturing business that my father eventually took over. He (my father that is) was a well known designer in the industry and his factory made the chairs.

Thanks, Kerry! I do not have a Guinness pocket watch but have been keeping my eye out for a nice example of an early version (1950s Ingersoll I believe). I've seen a couple on eBay but haven't 'pulled the trigger' yet. I'm looking into some more Gilroy canvases that recently popped on the market.

Beautiful layout, and your wife has a good eye for decor. I have couple of wooden stereo type sliding viewers laying around. The 3d like slides have alot of monuments and vacation spots. BTW, I have a 3 lens, Keystone Americana, model 773 M. Thanks for sharing.
