In a previous article on Carl Goldberg, I featured a cut-to-clear piece in a similar shape and said that Goldberg must have had a fascination with production techniques, as their output was so varied. Here is yet another treatment - acid cut back design, lightly stained in various colors to support an aquatic theme, with a red stained ornamental rim. Marked on the bottom with a C inside a G, the mark of Carl Goldberg, according to the Glasmarken Lexicon by Carolus Hartmann (see last photo scan). Highly stylized aquatic life motif is repeated three times around the body of this vase. About 7.25" tall, weighs nearly a full kilo.

Thanks, GSO - there was no way I could have left this orphan at the show today. :)

I think we saw something like that on the trip or in one of the new books I got. I"ll remember it and take a gander for it later.

oh I think I know, I think it's reminding me of a Dr Metzner piece.

Super piece Warren, and signed too!! It's a shame the gold that Goldberg used wasn't more resilient, it must've been stunning in all it's glory.

It's definitely worth getting properly restored I think

It isn't even on a shelf yet - still sitting in the light tent LOL :)

I am pleased to say that there are no chips, but I would love to find another example to see what this may have looked like originally. The surface colors almost look like watercolors, they are so subtle. Whatever the technique was, I don't think I've seen anything like it before.

and you have kittens! do you have the light tent in a room they can't get into or something? Light tents are like candy for my cats. I can't have em. first objective is to knock the tent over forthwith and second objective is to attack the tent from the outside hopefully while another cat is in it. Light tents are like the best cat toy EVER.

They actually leave it alone - they have too much other stuff to get into.
