The back of Ricke Band 2 (Katalog der Musterschnitte) lists numerous decors made on this shape, but only one shade of green, and that's this one: Russian Green (Russischgrün). The enameled decor is mentioned right on the line drawing for this shape - see the last photo and inset detail. I don't know what type of flower this represents, but it is apparently the marker for Dek I/107.

      Hi BG&M
Well done ... and another nice piece ...
Another Dekor pattern identified ... how have you managed to identify to date ?
... seems like a new one ever month !
Russgrün and russischgrün may be different colours BTW ...
      Cheers

Hi, Steve - the catlogue of decoration in the back of the Cantz Loetz book (p. 285) lists all the colors found in the line drawings, and it only has one color variation of Russian Green, referred to as Russische, also referred to as Vertrusse or Vert Russe. All refer to the same thing. Russ has to be simply an abbreviation. The date of this shape is ca. 1900, according to Ricke II.

      Best regards,

      Warren

      Hi Warren
Ricke II confirms both Russgrün and russichgrün in the production listings ...
Thinking it looked more like Maigrün than Tony´s listing:
      http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/12919-loetz-phenomen-genre-7773-decanter?in=loved-by-SteveS
Ref. to Elizabeth Meek (German dictionary for English speaking glass collectors) have Ruß (as in straße / strasse) as soot ...
      Russgrün becomes Soot green
... you may have a new colour as well ... ?
      Cheers

      Hi Warren
Went looking for Russblau and Russrosa in Ricke II without success.
Russgrün appears frequently in Arcadia in 1-106 to 1-108 right through 1900-1901 ... along with Ozone, Thea, Blau iris and rubin iris ... (including you blue jug)
These appear to be the cloudy / smokey / translucent colors of the Arcadia dekors leading toward medici ...
... either that or Tony's piece which is clear / transparent is not Russian green ...
Any chance of the jug and this piece together ...
Think I have one of the pink (5 fold rim with conical base) pieces in Arcadia ... will try to get a pic to post ...

Steve, I'm not quite following you... Arcadia refers to a specific ground (an milky green uranium glass), not a decor. There is no pink arcadia, for example... all Arcadia vessels are light milky green, the decors vary widely. Likewise, Russgrün (or Russian Green, what have you) will not appear "in Arcadia" - as these are two different grounds. I may have contributed to this confusion in my earlier days when I refered to my blue jug as "Arcadia" - I was mistaken. My blue jug is "Blau Iris" - the decor is "Dek I/134", as marked on the base.

      Hi Warren
Yes you are right ... I have started thinking of all the decorated versions in the 1/4-116 range as Arcadia ... thinking that they referenced previous designs ... Apologies and thanks for the clarification / reminder ...
Loved the hand painted pieces you posted earlier ...
Note to Craig: Kralik-glass.com has 3 different dekors grouped under 1/110
... which I think was more responsible for me heading in this direction ...
... a grouping for this style would be nice ? and a way to move forward with cataloguing them ... ?

Steve - stay tuned to Loetz.com; I think such a project is well under way... :)
    8. SteveS SteveS, 12 years ago
      Thanks ... I think ...
... but will miss the reference point for most of the decorative versions ...
Leaves just my 116, Deb's 117 and the 110 (which belongs under Arcadia and here) of the possible 125+ Dek I/xxx's ...
... any thoughts on a grouping for "gilded dekors" ...
      Although I note Warren's comments above ...
Becomes a bit circuitous with the cross / multiple references ...
      Cheers
ps great site by the way ... your pic of an Alpenrot was the only one I managed to locate ...
