Old ring boxes are easy to collect and justify since they take up little space in the crazy hoarder's small one bedroom apartment. They haven't been out of my "trinket box budget" until lately - mostly the old deco figured ones are getting more expensive. Picture on right shows 2 of my favorites.
On the left I have other bakelite, velvet w/push openers, woven straw, leather "fake shagrin", oriental fabic, a green jade box and celluloid w/glass liner (those are probaby cream or ointment jars - but the size is right.) AND a funky Grant Wood American Gothic compact that isn't old and isn't a ring box....but had to sit up in that spot. Most the ring boxes have old fun truly trashy, gaudy costume rings in them for a laugh when you open them up.
