WW11 British Civil Defence steel helmet. Made using low quality steel, as denoted by the three holes in the rim. This helmet still has its original factory grey paint, and is is great condition, considering they rusted far more easily than the better quality steel helmets, and were often overpainted in the colours used by the various groups the owner was attached to. Has owners initial painted inside.

    A nice No.2 C, the asterisk on the chin strap also denotes that this chin strap should not be used on military helmets & only used on the home front. They were also marked with an M, these straps were called Mk.IIA

    Thanks for looking BELLIN68, miKKoChristmas11, mrmajestic1, and tinlid, also thanks for the info. You mention No.2 C, is that to do with the helmet steel quality as indicated by the number of drilled holes?

    Holes 1-4 = Mk2 No.2 A,B,C,D. No.2 A, Manganese steel rejects factory finished black.
    No.2B mild steel strip, grey.
    No.2C mild steel plate, grey.
    No.2D mild steel, grey.
