Does anyone know about antique cameos? This one is set in 14 or 15k, its signed on the reverse but I can't make it out. Is it possible to identify the artist, or were there just a million of them?

I know that old cameos were reset in the Victorian era, and I think this is the case here, the pin catch isn't very old, and there is some soldering. Its quite large, about two inches tall! The figures look OLD, European or Roman. Does anyone have any information about this brooch?

Hello Stillwatee, I'll think it a wonderfull cameo and setting but I don't know too little about cameo's to give some good feedback vut I'm sure there will come professional comment from another collector, good luck to "meet" such a person!

I think I can see two letters in the cartouche: LS - Luigi Saulini?

You mean that circle on the reverse? Thats actually not a cartouche, the photo isn't very good. It is signed on the back though, in script, looks like Massom. I already looked at the lists of famous cameo carvers, it didn't look similar to any of them :(

I cannot make out the signature from the photo. Is it scratched in with a sharp point or acid etched? If scratched in, it may be a mark put there by a dealer & may or may not be the name of the carver. Yes, basically there were a million of them; most names are lost to us now.

The subject is the painter Raffaello Sanzio & his favorite model, known as La Fornarina.
