On one of my Saturday market trawls I found this little silver gilt and cloisonné enamel spoon. One of my favourite dealers there is a lady that I only know as 'Susan'. Susan arrives with interesting 'smalls' and this one caught my eye. The mark is on the back of the finely cast spoon and is indistinct even with a loupe. What is clear in the photo is "Norway" and with reference to my favourite site for silver I found the mark and another piece from the range: http://www.925-1000.com/david-andersen_marks.html

The other piece mentioned there has English import marks for 1898. David Andersen was founded in the then Christiana (now Oslo) Norway in 1876.

The enamel work is certainly reminiscent of Russian cloisonné enamel silver of the period and I think the Norwegian version imitates a Viking style called "Dragestil".

I wonder if they came in a set of six?

Magnificent! And a very unusual form, too. Don't know whether or not this spoon came cased in a set (4, 6, 8, 10, 12?), as the like have so often been sold in 'later times', or whether this might have instead ,or also, been available as 'singles' in a jewelry/silversmith shop. Is this a demitasse spoon? Or a 4 o'clock tea spoon, or a coffee spoon? You would surely have to hunt a good piece to find a mate for it - it would be a challenge even for you! I can't help but think that there are some Anderson devotees who would be most pleased to see this spoon and supply further information, if only you found one.

Blue, silver, shiny..and pretty! For me, it doesn't get any better than that unless there are roses involved too. *L* My first thought when I saw the picture was Russian also. Lovely piece. Thanks for sharing it with us! :-)
