I always thought marbles were made of glass. They certainly were when I was a kid in Britain. What are the measurements. There unusual.
    11. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
Thank you pops! Hi Peasejean, These are just slightly larger than the usual glass marbles.

Hey pops! Thank you friend, and thank you for the link! I took these in to show this guy who has marbles and toys at an antique mall--he had never seen anything like it. He tried to trade me a bunch of sterling silver for them, I politely declined :)
    26. pops52 pops52, 6 years ago
Good for you! Hold on to them!
    27. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago

    29. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
Crushing news! According to a marble expert, these are fakes! Good thing I only paid 2$ for all! :)
    30. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
I agree Cindy! Wanted to put it out there so someone doesn't overpay for something that isn't what they thought it to be--thanks Cindy! :)

      Get a second opinion Julie.
    32. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
Hi pops! I will, these marble collector sites are terrible. I registered and they said wait for email confirm...never receive, the other site, I posted and the pics won't show up and nobody says a word, but it tells you that all these people "looked." Loving cw right now! Hey pops, look at the marbles that I just loved. I think this is what one collector I emailed thinks I have...
    33. pops52 pops52, 6 years ago
It's hard to believe that anyone would make "fake" marbles. But i guess in this day and age anything is possible. I wish I could help, but I am far from an expert.
    34. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
I guess what they call "painted China marbles" are worth more and these are either those or some fake of those. I'm gonna find out...:)
    35. pops52 pops52, 6 years ago
      Good luck!
    36. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
Thanks pops! Just sent a bunch of emails to marble collector clubs :)
    37. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
Pops, still nothing definitive, but check out this marble: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Highly-Decorated-Large-Painted-China-Marble-1840-1860-Estate-Collection-/201197740510?pt=Marbles&hash=item2ed851e1de

Wow! that fetched a pretty penny! Looks close to yours, don't you think?
    39. pops52 pops52, 6 years ago
There are some serious marble collectors out there.
    40. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
I emailed with a marble collector and he said mine are fake, made from "ball mill ball" and decorated with "sharpie."

Oh yes, there are! :) very serious
    41. kyratango kyratango, 6 years ago
I know nothing about collectible marbles, but I think If somebody wanted to make fakes, they wouldn't been sold for 2$ !
They seem to have been well used and old :-)
    42. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
Hi kyra! They do seem used and old...These were found at a thrift shop for $2. Not sure the origin. I'm waiting for some more responses. The sites for posting are terrible! I registered and never got my access email. The others yielded no responses...I love CW now! I am realizing it is a wonderful site, very well set up and easy to navigate, and nice people for the most part ;) you for sure kyra! :)

      Just one of my favorites!
    44. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
Thank you pops! Really? I never could prove authentic or not, got mixed reactions from collectors...
    45. pops52 pops52, 6 years ago
Still love them, they look real to me!
    46. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
They will be antique someday regardless :)
    47. pops52 pops52, 6 years ago
      You got that right!
    48. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
:))) I've already had them for a couple years and they were donated to a thrift shop, so someone got tired of them...:)
    49. pops52 pops52, 6 years ago
Hi Julie, still loving these marbles!
    50. Jewels Jewels, 6 years ago
Ahaha hi pops! Whether authentic or humbly fake, we love these marbles :)
    51. grendel67, 5 years ago
Hi those have show up at flea markets and sales all the time. The stone marble part is old but the decoration isn't. From what I have heard that they were used as ballast on river boats in the 1800's at some point. And at some point in the 1970's or 80's someone found or dredged some from a river decided to make them look like old decorated clay marbles which are and can be worth a lot . The easy way to tell is by the weight they are really heavy compared to a real clay or porcelain marble they should general weigh at or a little lighter than a glass marble of the same size.

      Thanks for your help, grendel67!
