It didn't take long for me to find something on which to spend the money I saved for the Schmidt auction. This beautiful, old tin sign came up for auction on eBay the other night. Lucky for me the seller was looking to move it quickly and open to discussing a BIN. It didn't take long. Brought her home for approx 25% of book value. Now hangs over Command Central where it will serve as inspiration for me to keep up The Hunt. Good Times, indeed!
That is a beautiful sign.
Very nice grab Dave, always easy to find those special items to throw down some money, and you found a beaut!
Thanks Bellin, fifties, Michael, and lowspeed! And you too Bernie. You are right, easy to lay down a bundle while collecting Coca-Cola signs, especially early ones. This one I'll enjoy. It is an "upper tier" piece in my collection. I try to keep to buying items in the 1-2-3 hundred range. The little '26 sign was too sweet to pass up.
Dave, the condition on this sign is really great. This is one for the ages right here!
Thanks Perry, that means a lot coming from a home run hitter like you. I agree, this one has "it". That smile and gaze, the way she hands the viewer a bottle of Delicious and Refreshing, while caressing her... heart... Well, in it's day that was probably a pretty effective advertisement! :)
I prefer to think of it as the hawk majestically riding the wind, soaring high in the blue sky, then quickly diving in with aggressive, fine precision to nab an elusive prey. Oh yeah!!!!! :)
Seller couldn't make the deal fast enough. (His Schmidt bill was probably coming due.) Thanks TGBWC. It's small potatoes compared to your trip. See you in March.
Well at least ya got it Dave, one way or the other. You're probably right, his bill scared the schmidt out of him, after buyers premiums and shipping were tabulated.
Nice hawking Dave!!! I knew that "intravenous ebay" was a good thing for ya !!!
Thanks Tom for the kind words.
That is a great sign Dave. You did good! I have a place for it if you get tired of looking at it . . . .
Great sign & nice collection.
Thanks earlycoke and blunderbuss. I know I'm on the right track when quality collectors such as yourselves approve. I appreciate the comments. Blaine, I'm sure we can work out a fair trade... say even up for your 1896 syrup dispenser? Oh Yeah!!!!
Dave, you are true horse trader my friend!
In this case I'm trying to trade a pony for a Kentucky Derby winner! :)
