The lady in the center wearing the dark dress is my great grandmother. She was the founder of this group - the Association of Canadian-Americans. I have no idea what they did, but she was supposedly a very bright and charismatic woman. She knew all about the native plants and how to make medicine w/ them. She would collect plants and make cures and then peddle them door-to-door. They bought this beautiful, big, old stone house [more like a mansion] back in the 20s and tore up the clay tennis courts to put in her garden - which was still there when i was a kid. Unfortunately, i don't remember her, but people spoke about her so often, i feel as if i do. I'd love to know more about the Association.

Where was this taken, or where did she live?
Sounds like she was a resourceful woman.

I wondered if she was from that end of the country when you called her your great grand-memere.
I guess they were all transplanted Canadians then.

old people from town used to always remark that i reminded them of her, but they couldn't quite figure out why. i've been curious about that my whole life.
