I finally found a scythe in half decent shape for my collection of wood and/or Iron primitive tools. I see a lot of these at auction, but most are well used in rough shape, this one I lucked out on, it was clean and no one was bidding high that day. Machines have spoiled us, imagine cutting all day with this tool, at least you would get a nice workout.

excuse the boxes, they are all filled with LP's, all 97 boxes cracked a beam and have to keep them in front porch for now

Nothing beats REAL props for Halloween!!! I even "hung" myself last year in front of the house, right over the candy bowl. muuaahhhhhh!!!! Oh yeah, nice scythe!!!

Thanks tommy1002, I set out a little scene last year being the new neighbor from the city and over bought all good candy expecting all the kids,, but NO one came at all. Later to find out they celebrated it on another day, weird, we NEVER switched the date when I was a kid.

How do you know it's Austrian?

Thanks jonima. If you enlarge the the fourth photo and mouse click on the blade it will zoom in better. You can see Made in Austria pressed in the metal.

I have a Swan brand hand scythe that is like new with original decals, and if I recall that is also made in Austria. Maybe this one's an old swan, or they made some good scythes

Thnaks MiKKoChristmas11, eventually I will post a few of the entire house, it has some or I should say all cool original features but needs a new main support beam in the basement so I can't settle in and decorate or even furnish until it's done. The beam is hand hewn mortise and tenon and wood pegs connect attic beams, wavy glass windows and Some of the doors are like planks and have wrought iron handles from blacksmith. The previous owner was a huge antique collector and dealer also. I just bought another huge old beauty to rent out eventually so starting a collection too ?
