I have never been a real lover of amber glass, but! then again I suppose it also depends entirely on the piece, so! when I saw this large vase a few months ago, it wasn't immediately appealing, also the only photo was a real shocka, taken from distance and very dark, giving no idea what the colour of the glass even was.
It was the applied crimped rigaree attached to the rim that you could juuust!! make out that made me stop and stare at for a long time, I sat and watched it all week and in the end for the little amount they were asking, I decided to go for it...I thought another lesson taught if Chinese.
I love it!... it's a quite an impressive large, lovely vase standing..approx 22cm - 8.1/2 tall ... to just under.. 18cm - 7 inches in diameter.
Not being sure about who made this vase and after seeing a few very similar I think it may be by the New England Amberina or possibly a Mt.Washington Glass Vase, c1890, ...so any input would be very much appreciated!

I don't know. Amberina has been made by many manufacturers from the 1880's to present. I have some too. I love the stuff but for the most part I've given up trying to ID exactly who made something. This one doesn't scream American at me from the styling but who knows? I do think this is an older example but 1930 earlier...I'll try to remember this shape next time I find myself going thru my books in case it is American.
I looked thru mt washington and libbey. the color isn't right for either and the pattern isn't shown for either so I strongly think it isn't either of those. the color also isn't rich enough from my memory to be new england. the red was a deep fuschia for all of those companies. from your pics this looks like more of a light coloring.

I don't Inky. amberina wasn't made by just a few companies. and the lack of decoration and markings really makes it hard to get an idea of country. the style of the piece says France or Bohemia to me. It still could be American too. it's possible that it's a slightly later piece from a different company than the ones mentioned? as I said, I have a few pieces of amberina and absolutely none of them have a decent attribution. It's one of those things that I think isn't really possible unless you find a sticker on it or are lucky enough to match it up with a known shape. (and even matching shape is iffy)

It has a polished pontil, which suggests that it could be Steuben, in which case it's possibly quite valuable. You should get it checked out by a reputable antiques dealer or auction house.
This isn't Steuben. Many companies had polished pontils...
