These have been sitting on top of my parents entertainment center for years. I am told it is old, but I would like to know how old. Maybe what tribe. No markings, as they are handmade and handpainted.
i may be mistaken, but it looks like the kind of water jars you buy across the border in mexico.
Could be, I was told they came from my grandparents 40+ years ago.
My Mom & Dad have that and the paint is even identical. I know they bought a bunch of pottery back in the 1970's. The are very nice, I keep things because I like them!
I have the same one, were you ever able to find out more on this?
This is a Tonala water jug and cup - probably from the state of Jalisco in Mexico. They are very common. I have several of them.

Hello! I understand this was posted 12 years ago, but I am trying to learn more about this type of pottery. I currently own one of these, and from my understanding they're called Jarros, and are from Mexico. However, in my pursuit to learn more about this art form, I am running into limited resources. I have been able to find a few listing for pottery pieces that look similar to the one I have. Did you ever end up finding out anything else about the culture this piece originates from, or where you sourced it? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!
