Hi I am trying to identify theses tablecloths that were given to me by my mom. I believe they belonged to my grandmother but I am not sure. The first picture is two 3ftx3ft squares that are stitched together in a few spots by the same threading as is in the cloth designs. The second picture is a closeup of one of those 2 squares. The third picture is a large tablecloth 8ft.x8ft. with the fourth picture a closeup of its design. If anyone can identify these I would be grateful. I don't know how to care for them. Lace like this is made in a few places in Europe etc.. "Saba lace" is made by a very few women on that island within sight(on a clear day) from where I live. They were wives of sailors who learned the art & now hard to find anybody making it. If yours meets the standards, it may be worth a bit. The real quality lace is made by separating the threads in the cloth to form the patterns & collectable as art.
For those that know me, please don't pass it along that I know about such things. Actually I've bought some from friends in Saba for gifts, so know the process. Beautiful work.
Thank you so much for your answer. I failed to mention that these are also quite heavy. They are also more of an off white to beige in color. I think that they photograph much lighter. I wished that I had asked my parents where they acquired them because they are so exquisite...really very beautiful and detailed in their handiwork.
Thank you Rob for that video. It was wonderful to watch such craftsmanship. Looking at this makes me wonder if my parents purchased these items when they were stationed in France in the 50s. They did travel all over Europe. I would love to find someone locally to look at them and tell me what they are so I can pass the info on to my children. I live in the Houston area so if anyone knows of someone knowledgeable about this please let me know. Thanks so much!
